DDoS Attack targetting the Network Core

At approximately 2:35PM Eastern on October 21st, 2014, our monitoring systems alerted us of issues pertaining to our New Jersey network. After researching, it was determined that a denial of service attack had targetted our network core. All malicious traffic has been mitigated and service was returned to a normal working state minutes after the notification. We are making network changes to prevent this from becoming a recurring occurence. Any subsequent maintenance activities will be scheduled and you'll receive a separate notice.

Romania Emergency Maintenance Sunday Oct 12th (Resolved)

We will like to inform you that on Sunday, 12th of Octomber at 5AM (GMT + 2) we will start emergency maintenace on a core router in Romania. Most users will still be able to connect but all traffic will be impacted. We HIGHLY recommend using another location during this time.

Backup VPN Authentication Server Corrupted (Resolved)

Affecting Server - Skynet B | Priority - Critical


A RAID Controller failed on our backup VPN authentication server today. Services should not be affected. Unless something happens to the primary before we are able to re-create the backup on a new server. We are in the process of adding a new failover authentication server as we speak. This ticket will get updated once it is completed.

A new backup authentication solution is now in place. This is a High Availability failover cluster.


The network has been updated all nodes have been integrated with the new authentication system.

Smart Streaming Service Outage (Resolved)

New Jersey DDoS (Resolved)

Affecting System - NJ OpenVPN Incoming DDoS | Priority - High


The New Jersey server has been the target of a 2002 Mbps attack at approximately 9/28/2014 4:59:16 PM (GMT -04:00:00) We have null routed the IP. This attack is aimed at the OpenVPN gateway IP so some OpenVPN connectivity may be inturrupted until the route is put back in place.

ShellShock and its Aftermath (Resolved)

On 9/24/2014 a major new bug was discovered called Shellshock CVE-2014-6271. Incomplete patches were released later that day. We patched all of our non debian servers with the incomplete patch. Earlier today we became aware of CVE-2014-7169. The patch for the new bug CVE-2014-7169 was released a few hours ago. We immediately pushed out updates to all of our infrastructure. We are now in the process of evaluating our servers for any breaches that occured before the bug became publicly known. If anything is found this ticket and an announcement will be made.

Rotterdam TCP Connectivity (Resolved)

Rotterdam TCP connectivity is cut in half. Users cannot connect on any TCP ports from the alternate enterence IP.
